Coffee, roasted and pulled at home

Coffee obsessive and home roaster. Daily driver: a Gaggia Classic Pro and a single-dosing Mazzer Super Jolly.

I have been chasing a better cup for as long as I can remember. It started as a small fixation and turned into the thing I think about more than is probably healthy, from the green beans going into the roaster to the shot landing in the cup. Coffee is how I start every day and, more often than not, how I end it too.

Where this started

I fell for coffee young and never really climbed back out. What began as ordinary curiosity about why one cup tasted alive and the next tasted like nothing slowly became a proper obsession with the variables behind it: the grind, the dose, the water, the pressure, the freshness of the bean. Once you start pulling that thread it does not stop.

The roasting came later, and it changed everything. The day I roasted my first batch at home and pulled a shot from beans I had taken right from green to grinder, I understood how much of great espresso happens long before the machine ever switches on. I have been roasting at home ever since, and I share a lot of it on my coffee and roasting channel, because the back half of the craft is the part most buying guides skip and the part I find most interesting.

What I drink and brew

Espresso is home base. My daily driver is a Gaggia Classic Pro paired with a Mazzer Super Jolly that I converted for single dosing, and that pairing has taught me more about what actually matters in a setup than any spec sheet ever could. I roast my own beans, dial in by taste as much as by numbers, and I am as happy talking about a forgiving morning flat white as I am about chasing a god shot.

What I do not do is pretend to own every machine and grinder on this site. Nobody honest could, and you should be wary of anyone who claims otherwise. I know my own kit intimately, and for everything else I lean on the people who have lived with it.

How I research

So the recommendations here are built on research, not a single morning with a loan machine. I study the consensus: reviews from people whose palate and judgement I trust, cross-referenced against years of community discussion in the forums and subreddits where serious home baristas argue over the details, with the most weight given to long-term ownership reports rather than first-impression hype.

When independent sources agree, I have confidence. When they disagree, I tell you why instead of pretending there is a clean answer. My job is to do the forty hours of digging so you do not have to. Read the full methodology.
